    • Mumbai

After breakfast morning visit Gateway of India, the principal landmark of Mumbai, was the principal port when the visitors came to India by ship. The gateway was conceived, following the visit of King George V to India in 1911, and was officially opened in 1924. Its architecture is akin to the conventional Arch of Triumph, with elements derived from Muslim styles of 16th century Gujarat. Proceed to visit to Dhobi Ghat. Even if you are not possessed of an interest in other people's dirty laundry, you'll be fascinated with the sight. Each morning washing from all over Mumbai is brought here soaped, soaked, boiled, beaten, and thrashed. The next day, after being aired, pressed folded and wrapped, the bundles are returned from where they came. The secret that keeps the operation running smoothly is the coded symbol that each dhobi-wallah places on every item. Invisible to the untrained eye, this mark ensures that nothing is lost. This will be a fascinating photo stop that you will never be able to duplicate anywhere else!

Continue to Mani Bhawan, or the Gandhi Museum, for an intriguing visit. Serving as Mahatma Gandhi's Bombay base between 1917 and 1934, Mani Bhawan now serves as a museum and memorial. A series of tiny dioramas tell Gandhi's life story; photos covering the walls capture historic events; a sitting room and bedroom preserved behind glass take you back through time; and personal artifacts offer insights into Gandhi's hopes and struggles. One letter is addressed to Hitler, asking him to refrain from war. Gandhi also corresponded with Roosevelt, Tolstoy and Einstein.

Later embark on a mechanized boat as you leave for an excursion to Elephanta Island (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
The island is famous for its great cave shrine, excavated in the sixth century, dating back to the period, when the island was known as Gharapuri, the Fortress City. With the arrival of the Portuguese, the island was renamed Elephanta, after the huge carved elephant, they found at the place where they landed. The cave temple, which is the pride of Elephanta, sprawled over an area of approximately 5000 square meters, is reached by climbing a flight of more than 100 steps, to the top of a hill. One's attention is immediately drawn to the series of marvelous sculptured panels, nine in all, which are set like tableaux on the walls. Little is known about the architects and sculptors, who worked on this gem of ancient architecture. What is almost tangible is their intense faith, which seems to create an energy field in the cave premises. Each of the panel captures the volatility of Shiva's essentially paradoxical nature, and the magical interplay of light and shade, only intensifies the overall effect (Closed on Monday).

The tour culminates with a wine tasting session at the Oberoi Restaurant and bar, where their wine sommeliers  serves their famous in-house wine grown in Australia known as ‘Chinkara’.Chinkara Wines belong to Natasha Oberoi of the Oberoi Hotels family. She established the company in 2002 to blend fine wines from grapes grown in Australia and export them to India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malayasia and other countries of Southeast Asia.
